The brother known as Hound has a reputation. He’s all about cracking heads, having a good time, and when the Chaos Motorcycle Club needs someone to do the tough job, they call on him.

But Hound has a secret. He fell in love with a woman years ago. She’s untouchable. Unattainable. And even when her status changes, for Hound, it remains the same.

Keely Black had it all early and lost it all not long after. Thrown into an abyss of loss and grief, she’s faced a life of raising two sons alone and battling the rage at all that had been ripped from them.

And why.

Words spoken in anger open Hound’s and Keely’s eyes. For Hound, he sees he’s wasted his life loving the wrong woman. Keely sees she’s wasting her life not opening herself to the love of a good man.

Hound’s phone buzzed with a text.
He pried his eyes open, saw his alarm said it was nearly two in the morning and he grabbed his cell off the nightstand.
He had a text from Keely.
It said, Open your door, cowboy.
He stared at it a second.
Then he lost his mind.
He was out of bed, in his jeans and stalking to the door with his jeans not all the way buttoned before most men could spit.
He’d looked out the peephole and had the door unlocked and pulled open before a woman could say “boo.”
“Hey—” she started, giving him a look.
But she got no more out because he wrapped his fingers around her upper arm and yanked her inside.
He slammed the door, locked the three locks then shoved her against the wall beside the door with his hand still on her arm.
“Jesus, Hound, what—?”
He dipped his face right in hers.
“Are you fucking insane?”
“What?” she whispered, staring in his eyes.
“Are you…fucking…insane?” he repeated, slower this time.
“Why are you asking me that?”
“Because it’s near-on two, this apartment building is on the brink of bein’ a full-blown crack house, it’s in a neighborhood that Hell’s Angels might find a smidge too scary, and your ass is not in your bed in your sweet crib in your house in your nice neighborhood. Instead, it’s at my door.”
Her face screwed up. “Why is it safe for you and not for me?”
“Because I got four guns, seven knives, six inches on you, eighty pounds and a fuckin’ thousand-pound punch.”
“You know the PSI of your punch?” she asked curiously.
“Were you asleep the five thousand times I took your boys to the gym?” he asked back irately.
“No,” she mumbled.
He let her go and straightened away, asking, “What are you doin’ here, Keely?”
“Well, uh…” she started hesitantly, eyeing him up like she wasn’t sure how to go on.
“You’re here to play with my dick,” he bit off.
“How much more mad at me would it make you if I shared that had crossed my mind?” she asked.
“Maybe five, ten hundred thousand times more mad, babe,” he shot back in answer.
“Hmm…” she murmured, still eyeing him.
“I thought we agreed we were done,” he reminded her.
“I was kinda hoping you were feeling flexible about that.”
Hound looked to the ceiling.
Her soft “Hound” in her low, velvet voice came at him the instant her hand lit on his bare chest.
He grabbed her wrist and she made a surprised noise as he twisted it behind her back, jerked her around, and pushed her chest first into the wall.
He put his mouth to her ear.
“Undo your jeans,” he ordered.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

My love for this bunch of people started with Motorcycle Man, the last of Kristen Ashley’s Dream Man. I fell in love with every single one of these unconventional heroes so it comes as no surprise that Hound is the newest addition to my favorite book-boyfriends (although he probably wouldn’t like this title at all).

If you have followed this series you know that Keely Black is the widow of one of the Chaos members. Eighteen years ago the betrayal of their old president took him away from her and her sons. You also know that Hound has been carrying a torch for Keely. I have always been wondering why nothing ever came of it. Finally we get all the answers.

Hound’s love for Keely, her sons and his brothers knows no bounds. He is an all around good man, loyal, level-headed – mostly, and – be still my heart – he cooks and cleans and takes the trash out! What made me fall in love with him though was something nobody, not even his brothers knew about him. While he is the badass biker at the Compound, he takes care of his elderly neighbor in bis apartment building. The devotion and love he had for Jean was so incredibly touching and sweet that I was blinking tears away. They had such a beautiful relationship and the way he cared for his Jean-Bug, always with a mind to her dignity, it was simply moving. Hound is the born nurturer, he always took care of what he considered his and that included Keely and her sons. It cut deep that she seemingly didn’t return his feelings.

“I couldn’t find it in me to burn bright without you. You were gone, I was so empty. I gave everything I had to our boys and it felt like there was nothing left.” We’re…gonna…tear this life up.
“I gotta burn bright, honey,” I said softly. “I gotta start tearing this life up.”

Keely is the Old Lady out of the book, but she wasn’t one for long and has never been able to move on from her old man’s vicious murder. So when she turns up at his door one day, Hound watches her not with a small amount of surprise undress in his apartment.

Since the first 45% are written in Hound’s POV we don’t know what kind of play Keely is making. It becomes clear when the POV switches to her so hang in there!

Keely is a strong woman, and it’s never more clear when Hound delivers a major fuck-up. Her backbone is made of steel and I was so glad she didn’t give in but made him fight for her. She was magnificent in her anger. I had to dig deep to forgive Hound but then I thought about his love for his neighbor so I moved on.

Heads up, the first 35% contain a lot of sex. While I thought it was a little bit too much it helped to get a feel for the kind of relationship Keely and Hound had. I could definitely have done with a little less bed action and more story. With all that being said though, KA delivers one of her dirtiest heroes with Hound so far. Jesus, they were hot and went at each other like bunnies.

I want wild. I want fire. With you, I’m Keely. You take me hard. You ride me rough. I’m not a mom. I’m not the attendance officer at the high school that the kids alternately think is the shit, because I am, or think I’m a pain in their ass because if they miss school, I am. I’m a woman. All woman. The woman who likes to get fucked however you wanna fuck me.”

We get an update on where Chaos is headed and how things are going now that their enemy has disappeared. After the cliffy in the epilogue of Rough Ride I was expecting much more action but I think Ms Ashley saves the biggest climax (no pun intended) for Rush’s book (who I absolutely adored in Wild Like the Wind – his part towards the end is one of my favorite things in this book).

While this installment doesn’t have as much action and heartbreak as the former ones, which is surprising because I expected much more with Keely and Hound’s background story, it is a fabulous, intense and beautiful addition to the Chaos series. I loved Keely and Hound’s connection, her sons and I was happy to see lot of the brothers again, especially Tack, Hop and High (who was in the doghouse for a short period of time).

This installment was everything I hoped for. We get a lot of answers about how Black and Chaos was betrayed and we are left with a little cliffy that makes me salivate for the next one. Now the wait for Rush’s book starts and I’m afraid shit will hit the fan really soon and the relatively peaceful times at Chaos will be over soon. I can’t wait to get my hands on it

There is a reason Kristen Ashley is one of my favorite authors. Her words have a way to get under my skin. They are clear and get to the bottom of things without exaggerated flourish. But mostly they are beautiful because they are simple truths.

He’d had her every night but one for two months and he’d known her for twenty years, and he’d never gotten used to her brand of beauty.
